Model Restoration – Week 24

From July 7 to 11, 2025

We are completing the installation of the lotus lanterns, wooden slats, and brackets under the roofs.

We are staining and installing the fans on the balustrades of the first floor’s side sections.

We are installing a stained wooden slat at the roof junction between the right and central sections of the model.

We are filling the gap behind the front frieze of the central section’s balcony.

We are completing the installation of the slats under the small roof of the central facade and staining them.

We are placing the last panel with the inscriptions and the friezes underneath.

After drilling a hole in it, we stain and place the medallion of the right loggia.

We are assembling the pieces of the ridge ornament and positioning it temporarily to adjust the system that will make it removable.

We are staining the columns ochre/yellow and, with the help of the photograph from the Shanghai Notebook, we are outlining the patterns with a darker shade.

We are staining and installing the pieces that finish the masts.

We are filling the gaps under the ridge ornament, sculpting the resin to create a clean transition, staining it, and positioning it in place, supported at the back by a wooden slat.

The model’s restoration has been featured in several radio and visual reports, as well as in the written press, including this article in L’Echo which highlights Sofie Gonnissen’s work.
