The National Lottery strengthens its support for restoring, studying and passing on Belgium’s cultural heritage

"Some countries have exceptional natural resources. In Belgium, our natural resource is our heritage. We must cherish it, restore it, study it and pass it on. Because a treasure is only valuable if it enlightens the present and illuminates the future" - Jannie Haek, CEO of the National Lottery.

The National Lottery is strengthening its support for Belgian heritage through strategic partnerships with leading institutions. The collaboration agreements signed aim to support specific projects that combine restoration, research and initiatives to make heritage accessible to the public.

“Some countries have exceptional natural resources. In Belgium, our natural resource is our heritage. We must cherish it, restore it, study it and pass it on. Because a treasure is only valuable if it enlightens the present and illuminates the future,” insists Jannie Haek, CEO of the National Lottery.

The National Lottery will therefore support the revival of the China House in Laeken by assisting the non-profit organisation China House and the Silk Roads Countries with a conservation and restoration project. The aim is to restore this exceptional heritage site and turn it back into a lively venue, open to cultural, artistic and diplomatic initiatives and accessible to the widest possible audience.

“Without the National Lottery, the China house would be less impressive! The support of the National Lottery is the best thing that could have happened to get the necessary restoration work underway,” says Diane Hennebert, managing director of the China House.

“Preserving our heritage strengthens the unbreakable bond that unites our fellow citizens,” concludes Jannie Haek.

As a reminder, the National Lottery is based on a unique social model: 100% of its profits are reinvested in projects of general interest.

Piet Steel, Chairman, and the members of the Board of Directors of the non-profit organisation China House and the Silk Roads Countries warmly thank the National Lottery for its valuable support!
